Capcom may have been disappointing fans of the blue robot but the (among many other achievements) creator of the series Keiji Inafune wishes to please them. With his company comcept and an all star team of veterans with tradition in Mega Man games he has started a Kickstarter crowd funding campaign with the goal of developing Mighty No. 9, an all new yet familiar side scrolling action game.
This however won't merely copy the classics but also present new innovations. The main character Beck, 9th in a series of powerful robots and the only one unaffected by a computer virus that caused every mechanical creature in the world to go berserk, will be able to jump, shoot and transform within at least 6 levels, chosen in any order, while enemy weapons and abilities will be usable against the rest of the Mighty Number robots.
The campaign's base goal is $900.000 and supporters may secure a digital copy starting from $20 (about 15€), while they will also affect the project's course through surveys, polls, contests and other methods. Mighty No. 9 will be developed for Windows but there are further stretch goals that if reached will fund versions for Linux, Mac, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U, as well as additional content for all of them. If all goes well, within less than a year in June of 2014 we will be seeing the game's release. For now, explore the campaign's page for more details.
